Gone with the Wind
Each summer a few weather experts from the Ministry of Magic are sent on an expedition into the muggle world. They descend upon a little town in the United States called Long Beach. It is known in in their world as the "longest beach" in the world but, as you know we have a few of our own, where the size alone would baffle a Muggle's mind. These Ministry workers are sent each year to ensure that a certain festival goes off without a hitch.
Now, before I tell you which festival I am referring to, let me first see if you can guess by a description of the event. The sky is a riot of colors and shapes, twisting and turning with the breeze. Alligators, giant squid, centipedes, and even pirates are all competing for a piece of the sky. Maybe you have guessed a post-game Quiddy celebration, and in fact that almost does sound just about right, but no — this would be a kite festival!
Yes, Muggles amass to see the beautiful kites of all sizes and shapes fill the air showing off their aerobatics. Of course there are plenty of edible treats and souvenirs to be had, but just watching the spectacular aerial show is more than enough to satisfy most. Now it may not compete with a Quidditch match, but this kite festival which is held each August is well worth the journey into Muggle territory.
As you now know, the Ministry provides a team of experts to ensure that there is enough wind to fly the thousands of kites which Muggles haul to the beach. Conditions have to be just right, and it has been proven that the expertise of the weather wizards is a vital aspect to the success of the festival. The Ministry provides this service as a token of friendship to Muggle government officials. A trained eye may even be able to spot these great wizards. They disguise themselves as kites! If you happen to see a kite with large eyes and an extremely long streamer or two, chances are you have spotted a hidden weather wizard! They tend to stick to animals, such as snakes, lizards and squid. This makes it easier for them to communicate with one another. They even have a system of winking to each other should they need to "talk" amongst themselves!
If you happen to be looking for a great adventure for the summer, I say pack your bags, grab your portkey, and get ready to experience wind the wizarding way!
