Review: Click Here (To Find Out How I Survived 7th Grade)
We have all read at least one book in our lives. If it isn't a novel, it could be a small book, which deals with everyday life. If not that, maybe a picture book. Whichever you've read, it might follow a certain pattern. First, the main character is feeling a certain mood, certain events happen in the middle, and in the climax thematic and plot issues are resolved. At the end, the main character usually has learned an important lesson. That's what happens in most the books you might have read. But, Click Here (To Find Out How I Survived 7th Grade), written by Denise Vega, is a book that doesn't need to follow that rule. It works out perfectly without following conventional development.
Just entering Molly Brown Middle School, computer-whiz Erin P. Swift realizes that she and her best friend since kindergarten, Jilly, are going to be on different tracks. What is she going to do? She believes that she would be lost without Jilly! But as her life goes on, she starts to appreciate that she is "alone" now because she meets a lot of people who help her and stand by her. However, there are some she wants to avoid.
On the first day of school, a long-time bully calls her a name she doesn't necessarily prefer: "puppet." That's because everyone thinks that everything she does goes according to Jilly's plans. In other words, Jilly is controlling Erin's life. As she begins to feel more independent, she gets a crush on someone who she is afraid will only think of her as a friend, and a friend to whom she would have never talked if Jilly was in the same track.
As her life goes on, she keeps track of it in her personal website which nobody has access to except her. She pours her heart out in it! But, she doesn't know that one day, it'll turn for the worse. It all turns bad after the play that Jilly has told her to try out for. Or, is it for the better?
This book is a wonderful book that all teenage girls should read because it's about standing up for yourself, and it shows you that when things get bad, they'll always get better. This book tells you how a girl survives a year of school where everything changes. For girls out here who think they're having a tough time in school, read this book and see how Erin P. Swift is dealing with similar issues. I give this awesome book 3-1/2 stars out of 5.
