Review: District 9

**Warning: This movie is rated R and should not be seen by students under the age of 17.**

Summer is drawing to a close, but that doesn't mean the big summer action movies have all left the theaters. Though the selection may be a bit slimmer, there is at least one movie still showing which may pique your interest. I recently watched District 9 and, having only seen one preview, I wasn't sure exactly what I was getting myself into. In other words, I wasn't really sure what to expect. This hardly ever deters me anyway, and in this case I am glad I leaped for the chance to see the movie.

In this movie you are thrown right into the story in a documentary-like setting. You are hearing the storyline, by the characters and players of the movie itself. Which is an interesting spin and, in this case, I thought very well accomplished. There is plenty of action, a good (if somewhat predictable) storyline and, of course, aliens versus human beings tension.

I found myself wondering if the events really happened, how it would affect me. Would I react in the same way as the lead characters? Would I be defending the aliens or would I look at them like they were lesser beings? I really enjoy movies that make me think, and this movie did just that in ways I never would have anticipated.

I could go into great depth about the storyline's twists and turns, but I will leave that pleasure for you to experience on your own. I'll just say that I was fully entertained throughout the movie and in the end I was cheering for an unlikely character.

Movies are not as cheap as the used to be, but I was happy to have spent my galleons in order to be entertained in an action-packed, interesting storyline. At times I even found myself laughing out loud, though that may just be my view on the unlikelihood of anyone relishing the flavor of cat food.

If you are looking for an interesting movie with a bit of fun and a bit of thought I suggest seeing District 9. It is not suitable for all ages as the language is a bit rough and there is a fair portion of violence, but for adults looking for an action outlet, I'd say this movie might just fit the bill.
