Summer Movie Mayhem
Isn't summer lovely sometimes? Through the day it's too hot to go outside, but you can spend that period at home hiding from the sun, reading a book to scare away the boredom, or you could go to the closest beach and sunbath, or you can just take a nap and skip it. While at night it's not cold but yet it's way cooler, and it's perfect for going outside on a walk or to go somewhere like the cinema! It sure feels good to watch a nice movie in the midnight showing, or at least anytime later in the day when the weather is cooler.
But then again, to enjoy a good movie in the summer, there must be good movies made in the summer (otherwise you could just get them on DVD and watch them with your friends or family at home)! Where there good movies this summer? Or were all movies bad? Let's see what we've found out with our small poll!
And just as a note, I wanted to state that all of the stats were made without Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I didn't want to spoil anything for those who haven't yet watched it, and I didn't want to argue with the opinions of the ones who already saw it, as nearly everyone has their different opinion about it.
What I found interesting is that animated movies have an increased percent of watching, and guess what? The top two movies from the poll are animated ones! I bet they won't make a mistake if they make an animated Harry Potter.
Anyway, here is my list of top five movies for the summer, chosen with a poll between HOL people.
5. Bruno
Definitely a must-watch comedy. Well, not that you must watch it, but it's pretty much the best comedy for this summer and certain HOLers pointed that out as well. Have you ever watched Borat before? Well, this is just a new cracking comedy from the same director, and believe me, you'll be rolling on the floor and laughing!
4. Transformers 2: Revenge Of The Fallen
Oh goody, a sequel! And none other than the movie that placed really well on the box office not too long ago. The transforming robots are back for another round of marvelous fighting. Though don't let the title fool you, you won't get to see the "losers" from the first movie seeking revenge, you get a brand new set of robots who the Autobots and Decepticons will have to ally against in order to defeat. And for all the fans of Shia LaBeouf out there — be happy, you get to droll over him once again.
3. Drag Me To Hell
Well of course, a horror movie had to pop up sooner or later. A woman gets a supernatural curse on her (yay!) and she asks a seer to help her save her life while evil forces are trying to harm her. It's probably not the best horror movie out there, as they don't make any good ones anymore, but yes, it's worth to watch.
2. Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs
Yet another sequel! Just this time of the fantastic animated comedy Ice Age. Doesn't ring a bell? How about the squirrel with the acorn? That's absolutely a trademark of this hilarious animated comedy. This time that same group of animals is up for some more trouble, and as the topic itself says, the trouble is related with the dinosaurs (and dinosaur eggs *coughs*). If you haven't watched it yet, then you should totally watch it! Just first make sure you're prepared for a lot of laughing.
1. Up
Our winner is UP (get it?)! Pixar has always made good animated movies, ones that everyone loves and enjoys no matter of their age or anything else. You can't really say is the picture better, or is the plot better — they're both just splendid. A small boy meets a girl around his age and together they dream to build a house on a mountain, but soon they start growing older and older and after a while the woman passes away. The old man is left alone to fulfill the dream. Actually he just thinks he's alone; soon he finds out that he has a young expedition enthusiast boy with him. A really fun but sad story. If you haven't watched it yet, then stop whatever you're doing and go get the movie!
And that is pretty much everything. We're now left to wait for the last several movies of this summer to come out, and actually the most anticipated one is an animation called 9 (yes, the number nine!). Animated movies strike again? We can just wait to see how good it will be.
