An Interview with Serenity Thomas
With the beginning of this lovely new year at HOL, I, Constance Rigley, have decided to present to all WT readers an interview with none other than Serenity Thomas! Why, you ask, am I interested in Miss Thomas? Well, she's a fifth year student, a Gryffindor Prefect, and a student teacher of one of the most interesting classes you can find here!
C: The end of the summer has come along; are you looking forward to this school year?
S: I am absolutely looking forward to this school year. I'm extremely excited to start my OWLs, though if I'm perfectly honest I'm a bit nervous about them too. This year being the 10th Anniversary of HOL is bound to be amazing! I hear there are a lot of fun events coming up! So, yes I'm wicked excited about this year!
C: I understand you are going to be teaching The Marauders 101 this year. Are you excited?
S: I will be teaching The Marauders 101 this year, with the help of my lovely assistant BeckyJay Winchester. I know both BJ and I are wicked excited to be doing this class. For me, I always wanted to try to complete a Marauders class since I first started HOL. I absolutely love the Marauders, so it was only fitting that I would love making a class about them.
C: Are there any other classes you are involved in and/or taking?
S: Well, this term I am only taking three classes: A Visit to Diagon Alley, Beauty and the Beetle: Rita Skeeter, and Factions of Superheroes. Those were the classes that immediately jumped out at me screaming "Take me, Serenity! Take me!" Of course, I always do what the voices say. -cough- As for classes I'm involved with, I previously taught Cryptozoology; however, due to me being too lazy to keep up with it and busy with other HOL stuff, I decided to step back and become the assistant while the lovely and talented Zoki Phantom (or Zokipoo, as I prefer to call him) steps up to bat as the professor. I am also assisting Auror Training Level 2. And my list is done. XD
C: Why did you choose those in particular?
S: Besides those classes screaming for me to join them. Seriously, always listen to those voices! I joined A Visit to Diagon Alley because I had the honor of taking Rorey's last visit class — A Visit to Hogsmeade — last year, and it was amazing. As soon as I saw that she was offering this class I knew I had to take it, not only to learn about all these awesome places, but also to be taught by her awesomeness herself. The Beauty and the Beetle: Rita Skeeter class I had to take, there was no way around it. I swear, I was blackmailed by the professor and class assistant, and I'll stick to that story. It also doesn't hurt that there's an award named after me, and I'm determined to win it! The Factions of Superheroes class I instantly knew I wanted to take. As soon as I saw the word Superheroes I immediately clicked on the class link. The class was very well organized and looked amazing. Not to mention I absolutely love the superheroes the class will be going over.
C: So, being in Gryffindor, how is it?
S: How is it being in Gryffindor? It's totally awesome of course! I absolutely love my house. I couldn't see myself in any other one out there. The staff and students there are simply the best. I couldn't say enough wonderful things about being a Gryffindor.
C: I'm quite sure you are currently a prefect. Do correct me if I'm wrong. But how did it feel to earn that position?
S: I am a prefect! -shines prefect badge- It felt amazing to become one. I really felt honored that I was selected to become one. If I'm totally honest, I was really apprehensive at first because I didn't think I'd be able to live up to all of the responsibility. Hopefully, I'm doing an okay job. :D
C: Being a fifth year, would you say that life at HOL gets better as you progress?
S: I would definitely say that life gets better at HOL as you get older. You're able to maneuver around HOL much easier then you did as a First Year. You make great friends, and with time your friendships are able to become so much stronger. HOL easily becomes your second home the longer you stay here.
C: Is there anything in your HOL career that you're especially proud of?
S: Oh, that's a hard question. I would have to say one of the things I'm most proud of would have to be the Marauders class. It was one of my goals to do that class. It only took me five years to accomplish it, but I did it. Other then that class I would have to say my Opal's Gems Adept award from Prof. Opal Dragonfly. It was the first award I ever received and it will always hold a special place in my heart.
C: On a more personal note, what exactly makes Serenity Thomas, Serenity Thomas?
S: What makes me, me? Well that can easily be explained in three words. Procrastination, energetic and dorkiness.
C: When not being studious and winning numerous awards, what is your most favorite occupation?
S: My favorite occupation... hmm... I think that would have to be a writer or an archeologist. I would love to do either of those as an occupation. I love creating my own worlds, so writing fits in perfectly with that. As for an archeologist, I have always been fascinated by the past and would love the chance to go to, say, Egypt to study the pyramids.
C: So, in conclusion, do you have any advice or parting words for anyone on this upcoming year?
S: I think the only advice I could give would be not to spread yourself too thin here. Everything can easily become too much when combined with your personal schedule too. Other than that, if you're a Gryffindor, go earn points!!!
