How to Earn a Bazillion Points at HOL
I think one of the more frequent questions I am asked is how the heck do I earn as many points as I do? It's simple: I do my best to submit something for every point opportunity activity I can. I'm sure it sounds easier said then done.
I take five classes, turn in all assignments, extra credits, projects, exams, and do my best to get a perfect score on all of them. It's also best if you submit to all of the Library and Art Department projects as well. In your spare time too, the Library has an ongoing project of submitting chapters to books. If you're not too busy, you could write a chapter here and there as a time filler.
Next, we move onto House newspapers and activities. Every house has a house paper, and they usually advertise when they are accepting new submission on the HOL Blog (Entrance Hall) or on the main HOL forum. You can earn from 40-50 points for submissions from one house. That alone would help rake in some hefty points.
Be on the lookout through the year for HOL challenges that can earn you points. For example, during the summer, we had the HOL 10th Anniversary Banner contest, and each entry was able to get points. Currently there is a Deathday Party activity going on. Signing up for those and earning points is a fun way to get to know other people around HOL.
Now, some of you might be saying, "That sounds like a lot of work. How would I be able to keep all that straight?" For me, one thing that keeps me organized is a spreadsheet. In my spreadsheet, I keep track of all point opportunities, and I put their due date next to them, so I can clearly see when things are due. I then mark off when I've turned in the activity and wait for the points to come rolling in.
Definitely make sure you read all the rules and instructions to any activity/points opportunity you engage in, so that you don't risk losing points due to non-compliance. I might miss an activity here and there due to being unable to participate, but I try my hardest to be a part of all HOL has to offer. Besides earning a lot of points for your house, you'll get the opportunity to meet other people and you gain more friends out of it, which can truly be the best reward.
