The King's Wise Words
by Zoki Phantom
Years ago there lived a king with his young son. Sadly, the king was very ill and, before he passed away, he gave advice to his son: "Helping animals is wiser than helping evil men. An animal will repay you with Good, but a bad man will repay you with Evil; so, never help men you don't know!"
A few days after the prince took the king's throne and became the king of the land, he went to hunt in the forest. After a few hours of hunting, he saw an injured snake. He remembered the words of his father, and put the snake in his bag. First thing after arrived in the town, he called a doctor to cure the snake. The doctor wanted to know why the king wanted to cure the snake, and the king told him about what his father told him. But, the doctor advised him that with the money he'd pay to help the snake, he could help at least three other people who needed the money more. But as the king didn't respond to that in any way, the doctor just moved on to curing the snake. After the doctor cured her, the king let her live in his home.
A week or two later, when the king was hunting, he noticed another hurt being — a crow. At once he took it in his hands and, after he returned home, he called the doctor once again. The doctor was very confused, as this was the second time the king was spending money on animals, but he didn't object. He cured the crow, and the king let it live in his house, just like the snake.
Several days after, while on another hunt, the king saw a wolf! But he didn't run away, as he noticed it was hurt and couldn't harm him. Nearby to the wolf lay a hurt man, as well. The king took both the animal and the man with him and called the doctor to cure them. Afterward he let both live with him.
Time passed and passed, but they all still lived with him, and they even got along very well! However, as the king didn't work at anything, but he spent a lot of money (mostly for helping other people and animals), he soon became very poor. He couldn't even take proper care for himself, so he couldn't even think about supporting the four creatures who he used to care about!
But when the animals saw that he was poor, they led him to one of his rooms that he hadn't been in for a while. What he saw there came to a big surprise to him. The room was full with all sorts of treasures, from gold to diamonds. He used them to pay to everyone he owned money, and then he kept living a peaceful life with his animals and the man.
But, when the man found out about this, he started spreading rumors about it all over the town. Soon everyone believed that the king's treasure was actually not his, and since there were people who were stealing other folks' treasures, the townspeople connected these thefts with the king's new-found treasure. Soon the king was put in prison, and the animals were all locked up as well.
Then the king remembered what his father has told him: "Helping animals is wiser than helping an evil man. Animals will repay you with Good, but a bad man will repay you with Evil; so, never help men you don't know!" Sadly, it was too late for that.
