Muggle Pastimes
by Zoki Phantom
We all know wizards and witches love collecting wizard cards and other random, especially shiny, stuff, and they like playing quidditch or just flying around with their brooms, but what do muggles go crazy about? What do muggles do with their free time?
From what the Ministry of Magic's statistics say, muggles spend most of their time in front of these silly machines they call computers. They are indeed quite entertaining, for they have all these "games" you can play. Have you imagined playing muggle soccer, football, basketball, baseball, and all other sports on a machine? Playing around with small people and structures? Listening to music or drawing? Well, it's possible; muggles use this machine for everything, and they obviously use it all the time as well. They even have something called "Internet" that allows them to get all sorts of things just with some browsing the various "sites" they can find on the Internet! They can even read books or watch movies on that Internet!
Music! Now that we've mentioned it, we have to say muggles can often be found listening to music: on the radio, on the TV, on the computer, and on all sorts of other electronic accessories. Muggles even start singing at the most random times, such as when under the shower, when at work, when walking down the streets, etc. And they would call us weird!
Another thing they tend to get obsessed with is food. They really enjoy eating, and some specific types of food are often their daily object of desire, such as chocolate for example. They crave chocolate all the time, even if they had some just a few hours ago.
Clothes are not spared from Muggle Mania, either. Whenever you go shopping in muggle stores, you might notice some of them squealing over shoes or t-shirts. Do any of us have thirty pairs of shoes? No, but some of them do. Muggles have at least several pairs, though the shoe addicts have many more. Imagine two shoe addicts, a girl and a boy, being a couple? It would be a shoe mania family! Fortunately, most boys don't usually get addicted to that.
The more "male" obsessions are, of course, sports. Getting out of work just to watch a football (or "soccer," as Americans would call it) match is quite crazy. Thank Merlin magical folk don't leave work in the wizarding world just for some silly games! Well, we do have quidditch and all, and we get obsessed with too, but at least that's our only sport. Muggles simply have too many! Other obsessions keen to men are cars and motorbikes. Some men just crave them and admire them, while others, more wealthy ones, have their own collections of them.
Muggle children are more like us (or is it we're more like muggle children?). They collect cards, rocks, and anything pretty or shiny. This, though, causes troubles to their parents, since if the children notice something they want, they won't leave till they have it. Poor parents.
Last but not least, muggles can get obsessed with other muggles! It's very common to see a muggle admiring a popular star of theirs, no matter is it a singer, soccer player, or actor/actress. They act as if they are in love with them: put pictures of them on their walls, find out everything they can about them, go to/watch each of their performances, etc. It's as if they start stalking them — even if they never actually get very close.
The above describes just a small number of the many pastimes muggles have; these are just the most common ones, according to the Ministry of Magic.
