A November entry

Well, I'm sort of in shock. I found out a little of what is going on with my folks. I think I'll write tomorrow. I'm going to go fly around some on the Quidditch pitch. Maybe practice with some moves or something. I don't know. I found out just a little bit ago, after dinner. Got an owl.

The next day

Yeah. Well. It turns out that my folks are now divorced. That proceedings or whatever they are called were started last spring or something. And now, they are done. And, that Mom wants to marry her girlfriend. Right. I'm not sure about what I feel, except still in shock. How could Dad have kept that a secret from me all this time? Are his feelings hurt? How is Mom doing? I've not seen her in ages. I imagine she is happy; I sure hope she is happy.

I don't know what else to write. I guess I'll get used to it. Think I'll go practice some Quidditch or something.

Two weeks later

Dear Diary,

I'm feeling much better about things. I got to talk with Mom the other day. She is still weirded out that I'm a witch but she was very careful to not say anything about it. I got to meet her in London — I actually rode on the Knight Bus! Anyway, yeah, I met her in London and we went shopping. That's one thing that always gets us together, shopping. Muggles and witches plus shopping means good times! I got a nifty heavy duty tartan coat with a really huge hood on it. It's all wool and lined with something slick and bright red. Very cheerful looking. She found a jacket that is more tailored and is kind of sleek looking. It's made of linen, I think.

I met her girlfriend, too. Anne Marie. I'm so glad they didn't hold hands while they were with me. Don't know why, just I guess I'd feel a little weird. Or maybe... it just occurs to me that I'd feel the same if Anne Marie was a guy. Well, you know what I mean.

Speaking of which, which I wasn't, I still don't know about Dad and Alanna. I found out that that really GOOD LOOKING dude Alanna was with, at that party, is like her cousin. And yeah, she really really likes him, but not "romantically" or anything like that. Hmmm. He's NOT that old. He's REALLY good looking. And, I found out he plays Quidditch too. He's usually playing Keeper, I think. He's kind of big to be a Seeker anyway. His name is Fred. Yeah, I know... Fred. Oh well, I could wish he had another way cool name but it's Fred. So maybe I'll be doodling "Fred" everywhere on my notes and stuff for a while. Gotta fit in, you know.... I've not had a crush YET and I'm already 14 years old. (Okay, I'm almost 14, so what I'm 13 but REALLY close to 14.)

Anyway, about Dad and Alanna. I've been home a couple of times, from school and visited with Dad and once Alanna was there and she took me out on her bike, and once she wasn't and Dad and I went fishing. I'd never fished with a wizard before. Well, I'd fished with Dad before of course, but I didn't KNOW he was a wizard. He didn't do wizarding things.... Anyway it was fun because he'd sort of levitate the fish, after it was well-hooked, bring it over to him, and then ease that hook out of the mouth and levitate the fish back to the water! That was SO funny to watch! :D :D :D

Turns out that Dad likes to fish but that he doesn't like hurting the fish. So, I kind of asked him about Alanna and he was just very casual about her. But I don't know... he sort of blushed the first time I asked how she was doing. So, who knows.

In the meantime, I've got to study now. RATS. I've got two exams tomorrow, Transfiguration and Arithmancy. So, good night Diary.
