Dear Diary - Saturday
I love this place! I love the meals that they have and I love my bed with its hanging curtains and I LOVE all the staircases! I especially love Scalawag.
And yet, and yet. There are something things I just hate! Tonight everyone all laughed at me when I said I wanted to play Exploding Snap and it turns out that I had the wrong NAME for the stupid game. It's called GOBSTONES. Well, excuse me! I didn't grow up knowing I was a witch!
Maybe I better start at the beginning of the day. It was great, actually. Mokie, the house elf I met the other day, brought me some hot cocoa when I was sitting in front of the fireplace in the morning. For some reason I woke up real early. Okay, it wasn't just for 'some reason.' Scalawag was bouncing up and down on my stomach, growling and tearing at the bed clothes. Sheesh! That woke me up and then I found out that the sun was just barely up! NO one else was awake so I just went into the Common Room and sat by the fire. I'm so glad that they keep the fires going; it's friendly or something to sit by a nice cozy fire. And when Mokie came out to take care of the fireplace, she saw me and scurried off and came back with a huge mug of hot cocoa. Scalawag tried to drink it but I wouldn't let her.
When Amy came out we went to breakfast. Then she left; she said she wanted to watch the Quidditch players practice. I didn't want to do that; I wanted to get my homework done so that tomorrow I could just sleep in and do absolutely nothing if I felt like it. So I went back to my common room and did my
I wandered by the Quidditch stadium and looked up at the goal hoops. I've not ever been on a broomstick and quite frankly, the idea of balancing on a broomstick, going a hundred miles an hour (or even 30!) and trying to catch a little twelve-inch ball in the air seems like something crazy to me. But folks say is it the greatest sport in the world, so I guess I need to watch them practice or something. Maybe I'll go with Amy the next time she goes to watch them.
Anyway, by that time, it was getting dark and my stomach was growling so we (I was with Scalawag all afternoon) returned to the castle. Dinner was great, as always, and then I went to our Common Rooms and that is where I got so embarrassed. Sheesh! Gobstones. Gobstones.
But Amy said 'never mind them' and we went to our dormitory and read some books. She is reading something about vampires, some sort of Muggle book, and I'm reading something I got from the library here: Quidditch Teams of Britain and Ireland. I figure that if I'm going to watch them practice, I better know something about the sport.
Good night, Diary. I've survived my first week at Hogwarts. Whew.
