House Flags
by Pezzie Granger

Welcome to the first Crafty Badger's Page! In each Wizarding Time's Edition there will be a new craft to try! Most of the crafts can be altered to go with your House (as in you don't have to make them Hufflepuff Colors, you can use your house colors, just follow the same steps and use your house colors instead).

This issue's craft is a House Flag.  It's easy to make and fun to display on your walls and give to friends.  You'll end up with four (4) little house flags.

Note: If you are a young crafter, work with a parent or someone older then you that can use scissors or anything that you may not be allow to use by yourself.

First let's gather our supplies:

2 felt sheets in your house colors
Aleene's Tacky Glue
Scissors
3/16th of inch wood dowel rod (12 inches in length) (You can find dowel rods pre-made in this size at a craft store like Hobby Lobby or Michael's--wherever you usually find craft supplies.)

Step 1

Take a sheet of felt and put a line of glue on each long end like in the picture, then place on top matching up the edges as best as you can the other felt sheet.  (See Picture Step 1-A) Let this dry for about 20 minutes before moving on to the next step.

Step 1-A

Step 2

After 20 minutes of dry time, fold the felt sheets in half to find the middle (the long way). Unfold and cut the sheets in half down the middle you found.  You will have two halves now. Next put a line of glue down the long ends again on both halves (see picture Step 2-A) and lay the top layer of felt back over on top of the glue.  Let dry again for about 20-30 minutes.

Step 2-A

Step 3

Now that both halves are dry it's time to cut each half into triangle shapes.  (See the photo for this step.) Open up one of the triangles see the flag? *smile* Now you can trim it to make it look nice to your liking.

Step 4--the last step!

Glue the flag to the dowel rod, let this dry over night. Viola! You now have a house flag!

Variations of this craft:

You can print out a house shield on sticker paper or paper, and glue or stick it on your flag.  If you are allow to iron, you could even make a small transfer and iron it on the flag before you glue it on to the dowel rod.

If you are skilled in sewing and have a sewing machine this craft will be much quicker to make, just sew in the places where it says to glue, then you can iron on a house shield and if allowed to as well hot glue the flag to the dowel rod! (Just be extra careful when using the hot glue)
