Winter Weather
Written by Kath Snape
Hello, everyone!
Our Hufflepuff January Poll, involved asking our fellow Hufflepuffs what their WINTER WEATHER was like where they live.
We all know that HOL is home to wizards and witches from all over the world. We also knew that the answers to this question would bring us all sorts of answers regarding different temperatures and climate conditions.
Below, you will find the questions that were asked, the results, and the great written responses our fellow Hufflepuffs offered for our enjoyment.

Felicia Hartwick (New York State): Yep, that's right... the three words I hate the most... snow, ice and cold... and, brother, have we had all of that.... Sometimes all in the same day. Winter here usually starts in October and ends in May as far as I'm concerned, because we have been known to have icy storms in October and blizzards in May....
Twilight Hodges (South Dakota): Blizzards in November, January, March and May. WE say winter starts in October and ends middle to end of May. Last year we had snow in beginning of June.... But, what I do like is the snow.
Tarma Black (Washington State): It is rainy a lot here where I live, with sometimes warm(ish) days, but we have had a LOT of snow recently (well, a lot for this area) and invariably I do get to break the ice in the water troughs a few times in the wintertime (sometimes I have to use a rather large axe to break the ice, too).
Prof. Anya Chutney (southeastern United States of America): Our weather goes from warm and muggy to cold and rainy in the blink of an eye. We have been known to have 75 degree and 30 degree weather in one week. Insanity, I tell you!
Rose Alstien (New Jersey): Snow, ice, and cold for me. One "snow day" so far this year, and three other big snowfalls so far over the weekends.
Prof. Angelus Darklost (Iowa): Kath, you forgot the option of "miserable. "*nods* We got 7 inches of snow on Saturday, got another 5 inches today... and have a blizzard warning through the overnight hours. Oh... and Thursday's forecasted HIGH is -1F. So yeah... miserable it is!!! (from a later post) Hey... we've hit a heat wave this evening. We're up from this morning's -28F (-52F windchill) to a tropical -19F (-38F windchill)!!!
Abigail Chambers (Iowa): I live in Iowa so Ange and I are in the same boat. It was extermely cold today. When I walked outside to go to school in the morning, my face nearly froze off and it hurt to breathe. Then I found out it was -5 and the high for the day was around 0.
Kokou Ookami (Georgia): Trying to predict the weather in Georgia is like trying to predict the Weasley Twins' next prank. Currently, an arctic front is moving over us, so the low tomorrow is going to be around 15 degrees Farenheit and the high is going to be around 30. However, just a week or two ago, we were having highs of 60 and 70. It can be all bright and sunny one day, then overcast the next. It's just like they say: "If you don't like the weather in Georgia, then stick around another day. It's sure to be something different tomorrow."
Prof. Opal Dragonfly (Florida): Northeastern Florida is mostly dry in the winter — the set-up for many brush/forest fires in early spring. It's cold right now (in the 50s daytime and 30s/40s nightime), but usually it hovers around the 70s in the day and the 60s at night. This is much "better" than where I used to live in the winter — upstate New York — so I can sympathize with Fels and what she's enduring right now! If I never see another snowflake, it still will be too soon for me....
Kath Snape (Rhode Island): Well I live in Rhode Island, which is the smallest state in the United States. It is in the northeast corner of the country, so we get snow and ice *shudders* and very cold weather during the winter. Of course, some years we get almost no snow and other years we break records. Last year, the temperatures were above average, for our area. This year the temperatures have been much colder then normal.
I think everyone had a wonderful, fun-filled time giving their Winter Weather reports. I wish to thank everyone who took the time to vote and an extra special thanks to all who wrote interesting, funny and informative responses.
