Impressions of an Ickle Firstie

Written by Twilight Hodges

Dear, oh dear! What classes should I take?

Hi! My name is Twilight Hodges, and I am a brand new ickle firstie. I signed up in December 2008 after having to wait two months. To my surprise I was sorted into Hufflepuff, but have figured out quickly that the Sorting Hat made a wise decision — I love it at the Sett and wouldn't trade Hufflepuff for any other house.

Since I have some time on my hands, I have been taking time to look around HOL and see what I can find, and find out. My main problem is how do I figure out which class to take for this coming term? "Well," I told myself, "all full term classes are out!" So, how do I narrow this choice down? Unlike many of you who may have a specific interest, I love everything and want to take everything right NOW! Let's see what is offered this term in one-term classes and see what I might be interested in!

You can find the list of classes that are being offered this term HERE!

How in the world am I going to decide on what class to take? I can only choose five classes! *sigh* But, since I don't have a time turner like Hermione Granger was reported to have, I guess I am going to have to narrow it down.

Do I just toss a coin? Do I do the "take the wand and stab in the dark" method? Do I choose the class because I love the professor?

It's hard to choose, obviously! Take a moment and perhaps write down the pros and cons of the classes you are interested in. HOL always offers a wide variety of classes, and sometimes they are taught each semester. Perhaps ask older students what they have taken and liked. Check out discussions in the General Class Discussions Area.

The main thing is to have fun! And, don't forget, sometimes the full-term classes open up, as well. Keep an eye out for that!

Which ones do I think I'll finally choose?

1. Care of Magical Pets
2. Wand-making
3. Transfiguration
4. Severus Snape: The Unanswered Questions
5. HOL Quidditch

Phew! I am so glad that it is done. NOW I don't have to stress over the choice any more... AT LEAST until next year and term. *sigh*

Good luck, and remember to have fun!
