Prefects Interview

I recently was able to sit down with Hufflepuff's two newest Prefects before the new term started. Kath Snape and Neville Prongs are the latest Prefects to represent the Hufflepuff House.

Rorey: I'll start off easily: tell me a little bit about yourselves, for those who might not know you well.

Kath: Let's see, where do I start? I started out as a newbie, coming to HOL years ago, on the coattails of Professor Ulol Kimil. He had advised me that he had found a fantastic place to join a Hogwarts Wizarding School. So I packed up my school trunk and soon arrived at the doors of HOL. I was quickly sorted into Hufflepuff House. I must say that during my first year here that I was very shy and kind of nervous. I was helped by my Badger Buddy, Tarma Black, to get to know how to get around HOL and the Sett. Once my second year came, I found I was much more relaxed and began to join in and become much more active with my fellow Badgers. During this time is when I met you, Rorey, my Partner in Crime :) From then on, we have enjoyed classes, challenges, and all sorts of HOL and Hufflepuff activities together.
Most everyone, who knows me, knows I love to do my class work and earn OUR house points. In our Hufflepuff House, I enjoy earning Citrines (Huffie money) by doing all kinds of challenges, offered monthly, by different fellow Hufflepuffs. I also strive to earn awards from my class professors, as well as from Hufflepuff House.

Neville: This makes my third year here at HOL. I joined due to my insane curiosity, since it was all my real life wife, Rorey Padfoot, talked about for her first year. So, instead of lurking over her shoulder looking at HOL, I decided to join and have my own account. I'm usually very quiet as I'm not much of a talker, but I do enjoy participating in my classes, doing the monthly challenges in the Sett, and giving Rorey and Kath a hard time about everything.

Rorey: So, prefects, huh? Who was the one who let you two know about the opportunity? Were you surprised?

Kath: Yeah! A PREFECT! (*rubs her shiny new prefect badge with her robe sleeve*) Just like yours, Rorey, right???
The Head of Hufflepuff House, Professor Anya Chutney, sent me an Owl and said that Hufflepuff House needed a couple of new prefects, but especially someone to keep our house poltergeist (PARKER) under control. I knew I was up to the challenge, so I sent an Owl right back to her!!
Yes, absolutely I was surprised!!!! I was just a brand new fourth year. I always thought you had to be a fifth year or older, or someone, like you (*points to Rorey*), who was doing so much to help around the Sett.

Neville: Well, technically I didn't see the owl first. I heard Rorey screaming with excitement first. She was excited that Kath had received her owl, and sent Anya an owl stating her excitement about Kath's owl. Then Anya poked Rorey to have me check for my owl. After Rorey was done screaming yet again, I finally understood that I, too, needed to check my owl, which, lo and behold, held a request for me to be a new prefect. I, of course, have accepted the position.

Rorey: Were you excited? Nervous?

Kath: You know I was! You were the first person I sent an owl to, to give you the good news. WE were both PREFECTS now!
As far as being nervous: yup, yup — BIG TIME! I knew this was a very big and important step for me, as a Badger. I also knew there would be a lot of new responsibilities, besides peeking around for Parker. Nervous, too, because you want to do everything right and not mess up. Who wants to lose their badge, their first week on the job?!

Neville: I think Rorey was excited enough for both of us. I was more shocked than anything. I was trying to remember what I did, to be chosen for this honor. I think I was more nervous about where in the Sett I would be helpful. As I stated before, I'm very quiet so I was hoping for a prefect job that will suit me as the shy quiet type.

Rorey: Did you ever think this wasn't for you?

Kath: Right now, I have just started, so I would say almost all HOL students dream some day that their Head of House will have enough faith and trust in them to offer them the prefect position. I think each student who makes every effort to do their best, to work hard, be friendly and be helpful, deep down hopes they will someday wear the prefect badge.

Neville: I have to agree with Kath. I believe all students hope to wear a prefect badge and serve their House, but on the other hand, it is nerve-racking, hoping you don't disgrace your House as well.

Rorey: What does this year have in store for you Prefect wise?

Kath: Well, I know I want to be more helpful around the Sett (what we call our Hufflepuff home). I am sure my HoH and DHoH are cooking up some great things for me to do. Now, will I need to spend a day or two in the hospital wing, after fainting, once I see their list? That remains to be seen.

Neville: Like I said, I would like to work behind the scenes, maybe helping out with the Hufflepuff Magazine or helping with updating other things that are needing updated. Outdated stuff is bad. *cg*

Rorey: Any new ideas or games you'll be working on for the Huffies?

Kath: Hehehe Everything I can do to earn Citrines, I try to do. Now, as most students and Professors who know my computer skills realize, I'm no good with graphics and things like that. But I hope to help out with a new game or project, once the new school year starts.

Neville: Now if I told you all of my ideas for this year, you would not be very surprised when they came around, would you?

Rorey: Do you have any encouraging words for the ickle Firsties who just getting sorted into Hufflepuff?

Kath: "You have joined the BEST house at HOL." You have every opportunity to enjoy every day you come to the Sett. We have games, challenges, RPs and all kinds of ways for you to participate, with your fellow Badgers. You never ever have to be alone, as you can have your very own Badger Buddy to help you. We are a Family and we want you to know you are now part of OUR family. We are so happy that you come to the Sett and hang out with your fellow Badgers.
Now of course, it is not all about being good. *clears throat and looks to see no HoH or DHoH is around* We are here to have lots of fun and create minor trouble wonderful memories.

Neville: What Kath said: the Hufflepuff House is a family. One that makes you feel right at home every time you come into the Common Room.

Rorey: Well, I think we are about out of time here. I wanted to thank both of you for taking time out of your busy schedules to share your thoughts with me. I hope you both have a wonderful new school year and welcome to the world of prefects.

Kath: Thanks Rorey, for offering me this interview with you. It has been a pleasure!

Neville: Thanks from me as well. It was nice to be interviewed.
