Rose Dove

There is an Egyptian dish that I like. It is called "molokhieh". It is made up of rice, spinach, meat or chicken, onions, and vinegar. It is a sort of stew dish. The rice is cooked separately from the spinach and meat (or chicken). The spinach and meat (or chicken) are cooked together. The onions are diced and mixed with the vinegar in a separate bowl. They are kind of the "sauce" for the dish. Salt can be added to the dish as well of course, as with most dishes I think. My grandmother would always insist that there was a certain order to put everything on your plate. I am not sure if it has something to do with the way the food will taste or if it is just the way my grandmother grew up with it. Personally, I do not think that it matters what order you put everything on your plate. You end up mixing it all together anyways.

Rick Riordan (also known as the author of the Percy Jackson series) wrote a different series about Egypt mythology. The trilogy is called the Kane Chronicles. It's about a brother and sister who learn that their father is more involved in the mystical world than they ever knew. Because of his involvement as a magician, the siblings get caught up in some shenanigans involving the Ancient Egyptian gods. They learn about their own abilities and travel around the world to reign in the loosed gods. Towards the end of the trilogy they do go to Egypt for the final showdown. Of course there is much more to the series but I don't want to spoil the books for anyone who is interested in reading them. I do remember enjoying them greatly. There is a good balance of humor with the seriousness of the siblings' mission. It was interesting to read about the Egyptian gods as characters that can be interacted with and not just learn about who they are.
