Billboard's Hot 10 - September 2020

This month's Hot 10 is made up of the 'old-time' favourite artists such as Harry Styles, Dua Lipa, or Justin Bieber. It's a variation of upbeat pop songs mixed with some ballads.

1. Dynamite — BTS

Number one hit is called 'Dynamite', and it is by the South Korean boyband called BTS. 'Dynamite' was released on August 21, 2020, and was written by David Stewart and Jessica Agombar. This song is their first song in Billboard Hot 100 which managed to become number one. This song is about bringing joy, confidence, and surge of energy to motivate and reinvigorate the community during these difficult times.

2. Holy — Justin Bieber ft. Chance the Rapper

Number two is 'Holy' by Justin Bieber featuring Chance the Rapper. 'Holy' was released on September 18, 2020, and was written by Justin Bieber, Chance the Rapper, and Jon Bellion. 'Holy' is not his first-ever song which managed to land in top 10 on Billboard. Some of his other songs which became number 1 in HOT 100 are 'What do you mean?' and 'Love Yourself'. His song 'Holy' is about his private life, specifically about his relationship with his wife Hailey Baldwin and how despite the differences, they managed to have a strong and loving relationship.

3. Watermelon Sugar — Harry Styles

Currently at number three is 'Watermelon Sugar' by Harry Styles, a former member of the British boyband One Direction. At peak (May 2020), this song was a number one in HOT 100. 'Watermelon Sugar' was released on November 16, 2019, and it was written by Tyler Johnson and Kid Harpoon. This song is about summer love, possibly the singer's former lover.

4. I Hope — Gabby Barrett ft. Charlie Puth

'I Hope' is a song by Gabby Barrett featuring Charlie Puth. Gabby is a young singer, and this song is currently her first song ever which managed to end up in HOT 100. The song was released on July 29, 2019, and was written by Zach Kale and Jon Nite. This song is about her ex-boyfriend who cheated on her and then broke up with her.

5. Before You Go — Lewis Capaldi

Lewis Capaldi is a relatively new singer who already had two great singles which ended up in HOT 100. 'Before You Go' was released on November 19, 2019, and was written by Plested, Tom Barnes, and Ben Kohn. 'Before You Go' is a story of the aftermath of someone close to the singer who decided to take his or her own life. The singer feels responsible for that person's death and questions himself whether he could have done something to prevent it.

6. Got What I Got — Jason Aldean

Jason Aldean has a long history in HOT 100 (his first song which ended up in HOT 100 was 'Hicktown' in October 2005). His song 'Got What I Got' is currently at 6th place. This song was released on October 10, 2019, and was written by Thomas Archer, Michael Tyler, and Alexander Palmer. This song can be considered an open letter to people who pick on his past life and the mistakes he made.

7. Adore You — Harry Styles

Another song by Harry Styles also can be found in HOT 100. 'Adore You' was released on December 6, 2019, and was written by Tyler Johnson and Amy Allen. At peak, this song managed to land at 6th place (April 2020). This song is about the singer's passions and love towards his significant other and the extent to which he would do things for him/her.

8. Break My Heart — Dua Lipa

'Break My Heart' is a new song by Dua Lipa which managed to land on 8th place in HOT 100. This song was released on March 25, 2020, and was written by Andrew Farriss, Michael Hutchence, and Dua Lipa. 'Break My Heart' is about the singer's personal life, as she finds herself questioning her relationship choices.

9. If The World Was Ending — JP Saxe ft. Julia Michaels

Number 9 in the chart is a new song called 'If The World Was Ending' by JP Saxe and his girlfriend, Julia Michaels. For both artists, this song is their first-ever song in any Billboard category. This song was released on October 17, 2019, and was written by Julia Michaels and JP Saxe. It's about the two singers reminiscing over past and flawed relationship. The song asks whether they would be there for and with each other if something bad would happen.

10. Don't Start Now — Dua Lipa

This song is another song by Dua Lipa which managed to place in top 10 in HOT 100. This song's highest position was #2 on March 21, 2020, and was currently the best result for any of her songs in HOT 100. It was released on November 1, 2019, and was written by Emily Warren, Ian Kirkpatrick, and Caroline Ailin. It is speculated that this song is about her ex-boyfriends — Isaac Carew and Paul Klein.
