  2. Q: Why didn't the chicken cross the road? A: Because there was a KFC on the other side! My answer: Because it saw there was a protest happening on the other side, and it didn't want to ruffle any feathers! Q: Why are dogs like phones? A: Because they have collar IDs. My answer: Because they always fetch your attention! Q: Where did the school kittens go for their field trip? A: To the mewseum. My answer: The Paw-tanical Garden! Jokes found here: https://www.ducksters.com/jokes/animals.php
  3. I've written about killer whales laughing before, so I imagine their laughter to be best represented by a clicking noise, since they can't really use their mouths like land-based mammals and the blowhole as the nose. click click click click - for small laughs CLICK! CLICK! CLICK! *blowhole exhale* - for that 'belly' laughter that we humans have For avian species, such as ravens, I'd imagine a mix of 'caws' but in a human 'ha ha' way, since that's their primary sound. Not to mention, they're capable of mimicking human laughter, so I think that'd fit with more human-like intonation. Caw! Caw! Caw! Caaaaaw! - for hahaha type of sound Ca! Ca! Caa! - for sarcastic laughter As for rats, I'd imagine they do little chirps or squeaks that we associate with rodents. chirp chirp SQUEAK! - unexpected laughter

  5. Of course, we would want to have our animals laugh with us in our jokes session. Maybe they can also share their human jokes and we can also laugh with them. Have you ever wondered how the animals laugh? What is the sound of their laugh? How do we represent the sound of their laugh? How do we spell it? There may be known laughing sounds and spellings for some animals. But there are still a lot of other animals without the known sounds. For 30 diamonds, participate in this ideation thread where we think of the laughing sounds made by some animal species and propose ways to represent these sounds or spell them, complete with punctuation symbols to express further the sound. Think of three (3) animal species, write their laughing sounds (spelling and punctuation symbols), and a short explanation of your answers. There are no right or wrong answers for these. Reply your answers here in this thread before end of April HOL time. Be reminded to follow HOL rules.
  6. For this activity, we will have a jokes session. Funny or not funny, no problem at all. Each of us have different viewpoints to what is funny and creative. Yes, I find corny jokes funny. *nods* For this activity, you shall research three animal jokes on the internet. There is a lot, no worries. You shall reply here the three jokes you found and the answers to them. Then, you shall come up with a second answer that you think of on your own. That would be the hard part. No worries, whatever the case, I will react HAHA on your post. *nods* If the first alternative is difficult for you, you can research for 10 animal jokes on the internet and their answers. Replying here in this thread with three jokes and two answers each (one from the internet and one you made on your own) or doing the alternative task before end of April 30 HOL time will earn you 30 diamonds, 10 diamonds each joke (3 diamonds each joke for the alternative task). Have fun! After all, we are in a session involving jokes. Always follow HOL rules. Provide the references you used in the activity.
  7. It is already Week 3! We are now on the week of jokes! Animal jokes, specifically. Let us follow HOL rules in our activities this week. Respect to everyone, animals and humans alike. Researching on this topic, I came across a study which has information on the persistence of animal jokes in history. Below are some excerpts from the paper: Defining joke, “a joke is primarily a short, fictional story with a surprising punch line at the end whose goal is to create a humorous effect in the audience/readers/viewers. It can be considered a text type or a discourse genre, so the focus is on either the linguistic form or the communicative function.” According to the paper, “there are many reasons for the general appeal of animal jokes. The dialogue of a prototypical animal joke is carried out between animals (i.e. inter-animal communication) or between one (or more) animal(s)and one (or more) person(s) (i.e. human–animal communication). Two of the main characteristics of animal jokes are that they emphasize or even exaggerate the most salient features of animals (the slowness of the snail, the long neck of the giraffe, etc.), and they anthropomorphize animals. Some animal jokes zoomorphize instead: for instance, humans can understand or speak the “language” of animals, behave like an animal”, etc. Given that scholarly context of our approach in understanding and learning more about animal jokes (you can read the whole paper in the link below for a greater comprehension on the subject), below is a link to a jigsaw puzzle containing a joke that I hope would succeed in making you smile. Solve the jigsaw and reply the solved image in this thread (no greater than 600x600 pixels, please) not later than end of April HOL time to earn 30 diamonds. Enjoy and have fun! CLICK HERE! The Professors are really great and I think everyone agrees with that! Up till now, I don't really know anyone from Hufflepuff, but I'm really looking forward to making friends with y'all! See you around!
  10. So the hubby went outside to cut down the dead tree behind the garage that has to get knocked down for the addition. But near that tree is the pine tree that our oldest daughter planted about 36 years ago when she was little on one Earth Day. He kept telling me it had to be cut down, and I kept fighting him that it had to stay. He comes in and tells me he cut the "Jessica tree" down. Of course I yelled at him and rushed outside to see and take a picture... and cried. And trust me, the "Jessica tree" looked nothing like the tree in the puzzle. It was tall and thin, bare branches at the bottom from not getting a lot of light... but it still meant the world to me. unfinished - https://imgur.com/a/OYWqkDe (140 pieces) finished - https://imgur.com/a/u7X73zy
