Wonders of the World - November 2024 - Pont du Gard Aqueduct

I have no idea why, each time I see a photograph of this aqueduct, that it is just so lovely.  Be it as it may, it is quite a Wonder to me, even if it doesn't hit the top 5 ancient Wonders of the World in most of the surveys.    

 

Behold the Pont du Gard Aqueduct, in France, near Nîmes, Uzés and Avignon.

The Pont du Gard Aqueduct is the tallest aqueduct in France, built on the Gard river. According to a Provençal legend, the building of the aqueduct is credited to the devil himself.

The bridge consists of three tiers of arches that formerly carried an estimated 8,800,000 gallons of water a day over about 50km which fed into the baths, fountains and homes of the Nîmes citizens.
